The Victorian Branch Scholarship background
After the scholarships had been wound down, in 2022, the following motion was passed by the committee:
“The eligibility conditions of the 2 Victorian Branch Scholarships, (The Charlie Walsh & Gordon Davidson Memorial Scholarships) be expanded to cover grandchildren. Initially there is to be a cap of 3 of each scholarship per Association member until running costs can be assessed. The details of the changes are to be advertised in the September issue of Track, giving time for members to assess their personal situation prior to the start of the school year. The value of the scholarship was to remain unchanged at $150 and be available to grandchildren of both ordinary and affiliate members with at least 5 years of financial membership, meaning where a family has 2 qualifying members, a total of 6 scholarships would be available.”
Initially, a cautionary approach was applied for fear of a rush of applications, however that didn't happen so it was suggested by the Patron at the 2023 AMG and decided at the April 2023 committee meeting, to increase the scholarship amount to $300 per year and to give members time to apply, the cutoff date was changed to 31 April each year. The initial background to this was reported in the September 2022 issue of track. This can be viewed by following the links to issues of Track on this website.
